Anna Shapiro of Annaesthetic

Anna Shapiro is a fiber artist and designer who makes contemporary, hand-loomed scarves and shawls.  "When it comes to the art of adornment," she says, "I believe there is beauty in function and function in beauty."

Her elegant work includes a variety of styles, from striped and adjustable drawstring scarves to Swarovski crystal and metallic thread accents.

Most of Anna's scarves, shawls and capes are made of 100% bamboo fiber, a silky soft fabric that's also eco-friendly.

She even creates customized dresses with this renewable resource.

She also "explores innovative ways to knit and felt merino wool in a new line of sculptural scarves."

Anna received her BFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design, and she now lives and works in Providence as an independent artist. As Anna puts it: "My love of form, fabric and texture is a natural extension of my background in sculpture. I enjoy creating original patterns that feature many unconventional approaches to knitting."

You can find Anna's work at galleries and juried art festivals across the country as well as our very own Cville Holiday Craftacular. Her entire collection is available through her online shop, Annaesthetic.
